The Vehicle Identity Check (VIC) is a new initiative being
launched by the Vehicle Inspectorate (VI) in 2003.
The scheme has been developed to help fight car crime by
deterring criminals from stealing cars and passing them off as repaired
accident damage ones.
From the 7th April 2003 all accident damaged and / or
substantially repaired cars notified to the DVLA must pass a vehicle identity
check before they can be returned to the road.
Information about the scheme can be found on the Vehicle Inspectorate website
